Manual/Automation Test Engineer (Air Traffic Management)

We provide communication and information systems for control centers with safety-critical tasks. Control Centre Solutions’ are developed and distributed by FREQUENTIS in the business segments Air Traffic Management (civil and military air traffic control, aeronautical information management, air defence) and Public Safety & Transport (police, fire and rescue services, emergency medical services, vessel traffic and railways).

We are building a new technical team responsible for developing and implementing a new generation of safety-critical voice communication system called Frequentis X10. The solution will be delivered to the prominent U.S. customer — the Federal Aviation Administration. If you want to bring your experience in test engineering to a Scrum Team working on an innovative ATM audio and communication system, then the X10 team is the right place for you!

Frequentis X10 is the optimal solution for all kinds of Air Traffic Control (ATC) operations, from low-traffic regional towers to high-end area control centres, including the new generation of ATC operations, such as regular and multi-remote towers, virtual centres and traffic management for uncrewed aircraft. The system permanently runs a duplicated parallel audio stream for every air/ground connection to guarantee uninterrupted audio.

This position is all about testing a complex project in a manual-functional-end-to-end manner. The Test Engineer that will join us will have a major contribution to the development of the safety critical software used by air traffic controllers.

Main Tasks

• Take part in daily work of the Scrum team: Attend daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives. Collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and other team members to ensure quality is built into the product from the start.
• Test Case Management: Create, maintain and execute manual test cases based on requirements
• Contribute to the selection of the tests to be executed according to a list of given changes in the project solution
• Testing Activities: Conducting system and acceptance tests
• Perform exploratory testing
• Defect management: Document defects in the tracking tool
• Automation and Tools: Use company CATS tool for creation of automated tests
• Retest defects after they are marked as resolved
• Documentation: Support the creation of the test documentation artefacts for formal test phases
• Retest in the local environment the defects that occurred in production. Analyse and document findings

Technical Skills and Knowledge

• Minimum basic knowledge in JAVA
• Good English knowledge, both written and verbally
• Comprehensive requirements management know-how
• Attention to details
• Experience with using continuous integration
• Willingness to learn test automation
• Good Linux skills would be an advantage
• Independent and structured way of working 
• Experience in testing with devices and using simulation tools is an advantage
• ATM know-how would be an advantage
