Your Role

As a Test Automation Engineer you will help shape the next generation of air–ground communications. Join an international technology leader and work with major aviation partners to turn an innovative proof of concept into reliable, product-quality software for ESA’s ground infrastructure. Solve complex networking challenges, validate new ideas through prototypes, and benefit from flexible working arrangements with a strong focus on work–life balance.

Working Model

• Hybrid working model with flexibility to work from home

• Regular onsite collaboration in our Bratislava office (typically once per week)

Main Responsibilities

• Define and implement the test approach for transforming the proof of concept into a dependable product.

• Develop and maintain automated system, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests for network services.

• Translate specifications and requirements into traceable test scenarios and acceptance criteria.

• Design nominal, boundary, negative, concurrent, failure-recovery, restart, and performance scenarios.

• Build and operate test environments using Linux, virtual machines, containers, simulators, and traffic-generation tools.

• Analyse packets, logs, and system state to isolate faults and produce clear, actionable defect reports.

• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD and collaborate with developers, system engineers, and international aviation partners.

Technical Skills & Competencies (Must Have)

• Professional experience automating tests for backends, APIs, distributed systems, or network services.

• Practical scripting skills in Python, Bash, or a comparable language.

• Solid hands-on networking knowledge, including IPv4/IPv6, TCP, UDP, routing, and packet analysis using tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump.

• Sound understanding of system, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.

• Ability to derive traceable test scenarios, corner cases, and failure conditions from complex technical or protocol specifications.

• Practical Linux experience, including package installation, virtual machines, networking, and troubleshooting.

• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.

• A systematic, inquisitive mindset and good technical communication skills.

Special Skills & Abilities (Nice To Have)

• Experience with OCI containers, Docker or Podman.

• Familiarity with traffic-generation and network-diagnostic tools such as iperf.

• Experience testing gRPC, NETCONF, SNMP, SSH, LISP, or other network protocols and interfaces.

• Experience with scenario-based or BDD/Gherkin test automation.

• Performance, resilience, concurrency, failover, or recovery testing experience.

• Software-development or unit-testing experience.

• Experience with Jenkins or another CI/CD system.

• Experience working in a Scrum team and using Jira or a comparable work-management tool.

• Experience testing aviation, telecommunications or other mission-critical systems.
