Senior Linux Network Engineer (Air Traffic Management)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Linux Network Engineer to strengthen our engineering teams and contribute to the design, deployment, and operation of Linux-based network infrastructure supporting safety-critical communication systems. You will work closely with customers, project teams, architects, and system engineers to deliver robust and scalable solutions while helping shape technical decisions across the entire project lifecycle.

Main Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and administer Linux-based network infrastructure and services
• Lead requirements analysis and technical design activities in cooperation with customers and internal stakeholders
• Verify technical feasibility and contribute to overall system architecture design
• Translate customer requirements into practical and maintainable technical solutions
• Adapt and refine system designs based on high-level requirements from Solution Managers, Technical Managers, and System Engineers
• Coordinate technical activities with internal teams, customers, and external suppliers
• Identify technical risks and opportunities and support contingency planning
• Build, deploy, support, and bring systems into operational service
• Troubleshoot Linux networking issues during integration and operations, including routing, NAT, firewalling, namespaces, packet flow, and container connectivity
• Conduct qualification testing and validation of Linux networking and high-availability components
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation for systems and interfaces
• Support acceptance testing and handover of internal and external deliveries
• Contribute to monitoring, optimisation, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Ensure technical quality, operational reliability, and maintainability throughout the system lifecycle

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Minimum 5 years of experience with Linux networking, including interfaces, IP addressing, routing, bridging, VLANs, bonding, and namespaces
• Deep understanding of Linux networking internals and packet flow analysis
• Experience troubleshooting networking issues using tools such as tcpdump, ip, iptables, and nftables
• Solid Linux administration background (RHEL or similar distributions), including systemd, journalctl, SELinux troubleshooting, package management, and system lifecycle operations
• Experience with container networking concepts and technologies, including bridge networking, host networking, NAT, and namespace-based connectivity
• Strong understanding of routing concepts, including static and dynamic routing, route advertisement, and routing troubleshooting
• Familiarity with routing technologies such as BGP, OSPF, or EVPN is considered an advantage
• Experience with high-availability concepts and technologies, including failover mechanisms, VIP handling, health checks, keepalived, and VRRP
• Knowledge of automation and configuration management using Ansible and scripting languages such as Bash or Python
• Experience with system integration, acceptance testing, and operational support
• Ability to assess system constraints and make pragmatic technical decisions balancing reliability, complexity, and maintainability
• German language - basic knowledge is an advantage
