O pozícii

Náplň práce, právomoci a zodpovednosti:

Python Engineer – Manufacturing Tools & Automation (3D Sensors)

About this position

Build the software that builds our 3D sensors.
At Photoneo, now part of Zebra Technologies, our state-of-the-art 3D sensors — MotionCam‑3D and PhoXi 3D Scanner — power factory automation and AI inspection worldwide.
You’ll design and own the internal Python applications that guide our devices from incoming component quality check (camera units, lasers, processing units) through assembly, end‑of‑line test, calibration, verification, and final quality check — the full lifecycle on the shop floor. Your code directly influences throughput, traceability, and yield on our own production line.

What’s next: We’re expanding our manufacturing portfolio at our Bratislava HQ, including a new product line. Some new tools will evolve into web‑based applications, so you’ll have the chance to influence architecture and technology choices from the ground up.

You’ll work at the intersection of software and hardware — hands-on with real hardware, AI-powered coding assistants, and future web-based tools.

Software Development Manager

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and own production tools for shop‑floor execution — from operator UIs and station services to test/calibration pipelines and automated quality gates.
  • Contribute in architecture, analysis, prototyping, and technical design of new functionalities.
  • Implement reliable data capture and traceability: persist parametric results, station metadata, and failure modes into our shop‑floor/MES systems (JIRA REST API, PostgreSQL; MongoDB advantage). Ensure results are network‑accessible and backed up.
  • Raise the bar on code quality (reviews, testing strategy, CI/CD) and operational excellence (observability, release hygiene, rollback plans).
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Service Engineering, HW, and other R&D teams. Partner with hardware engineers on station bring‑up, fixture integration, and troubleshooting on the shop floor.
  • Leverage AI‑powered coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development, hunt bugs, and explore optimization options.
  • Continuously refactor and harden operator UX to reduce cycle time and increase first‑pass yield.

Tech you’ll work with:

  • Python (3.9), PyQt, PyTest – must-have,
  • Python modules: numpy, paramiko, sqlalchemy (advantage)
  • Multiprocessing / multithreading for performance-critical tasks
  • AI‑assisted development tools (Copilot or similar) provided to boost productivity and code quality
  • Git (branching, reviews, release tagging) — must‑have
  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB (advantage)
  • Protocols/Integrations : REST/JSON (advantage)
  • Issue tracking: JIRA (plus)
  • CI/CD & DevOps: Jenkins/GitHub Actions (advantage); artifact versioning; deployment via Ansible/Zabbix/Semaphore/Nexus (advantage)
  • OS: Windows, Linux (running on the 3D sensors)
  • Future direction: Web frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, or similar) for next‑gen tools

Requirements:

  • Excellent skills in writing complex logic in Python
  • Experience writing high‑quality, readable, extendable, testable, and scalable code in Python (and optionally C++).
  • Ability to bridge software and hardware worlds—comfortable with instruments, sensors, and production setup.
  • Strong Git habits and code quality mindset (tests, reviews).
  • Comfortable debugging on the line (logs, I/O, timing, fixtures) and collaborating with operators/technicians.
  • English at B2 level or higher; concise technical writing for operators and peers, occasional communication with our colleagues in Montreal is envisioned
  • Nice‑to‑have: C++ experience, web app development, 3D vision/calibration workflows.

If you don’t meet every bullet but the mission resonates, we’d still like to hear from you.
