About this position
We are seeking a highly creative Senior Research Engineer who operates at the intersection of complex mathematics, 3D computer vision, and hands-on physical prototyping. This role represents the ultimate “Maker” position for advanced optical systems. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in advanced algorithms, computational geometry, or image processing, combined with a strong passion for bridging digital concepts with the physical world of lenses, lasers, and sensors.
This individual does not simply develop 3D reconstruction algorithms, but also understands the physical realities of the hardware capturing the data. Whether improving the accuracy of a 3D scanner or conceptualizing a complex robotic calibration station from the ground up, the candidate is expected to understand how software translates into real-world perception.
Location
Bratislava, Slovakia
Type of Employment
Full-time
Salary (brutto)
€3000-3500/month and up (based on work experience and overall qualifications)

R&D Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Applied 3D Algorithmic Development: Design and implement algorithms for 3D machine vision, structured light, point cloud processing, and camera calibration.
- Calibration & Test Rig Prototyping: Get hands-on in the lab. Conceptualize, build, or guide the creation of custom mechatronic calibration stations and testing rigs to validate your optical models.
- Hardware/Software Integration: Work hand-in-hand with the hardware team to review optics, sensor placements, and lighting to ensure they perfectly complement your software architecture.
- Creative Problem Solving: Bridge the gap between math and physics. When a 3D scan is noisy, you quickly figure out if it’s best solved by writing a smarter software filter, changing a lens, or tweaking the physical projection system.
Requirements:
- Education: Degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Vision, Mechatronics, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: Strong background in software/algorithm development, specifically applied to machine vision, 3D scanning, computational photography, or automated calibration systems.
- Algorithm/Software Expertise: Great grasp of 3D mathematics, projective geometry, computer vision (C++, Python, OpenCV, PCL, etc.).
- Maker’s Hardware Intuition: A solid, practical understanding of how vision hardware works. You know your way around cameras, optics, basic automation/kinematics for test rigs, and you aren't afraid to pick up a tool or tinker with a prototype.
Essential attributes:
- Creative Systems Thinker: You see the calibration target, the optical hardware, and the software as one single, cohesive organism.
- Agile Learner: You love tinkering with new vision sensors, learning new mathematical frameworks, and figuring out how light and geometry interact under the hood.
- Collaborative Team Player: You enjoy diving into a whiteboard full of math with software peers just as much as looking over a 3D-printed jig or PCB with the hardware team.
