About this position
Are you fresh out of university (or graduating soon) and love figuring out how things work in the physical world? We are looking for a smart, dedicated, and highly curious Junior Research Engineer to join our R&D team. You don’t need a long career history; we know everyone has to start somewhere. What you do need is a practical, hands-on mindset—you are a builder, a tinkerer, and a problem solver.
You are an ideal candidate if your core strength lies in electronics, mechanics, or general system design, with a strong intuition for how complex systems are assembled and integrated. Also if your background is rooted primarily in hardware, but you are also intellectually curious about algorithms and software, enabling close collaboration with the Algorithms team and helping ensure that physical hardware platforms effectively support computational requirements.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about building real-world systems and eager to learn from experienced engineers while contributing to the development of advanced technological solutions.
Location
Bratislava, Slovakia
Type of Employment
Full-time
Salary (brutto)
- €2000-2500/month for full-time
- or €10/hour for part-time
Reports to
R&D Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Hands-On Prototyping: Get your hands dirty! Help build, test, and debug integrated systems, sensors, electronics, and mechanical prototypes.
- Practical System Design: Assist in the physical architecture of our next-generation systems, learning how to turn theoretical ideas into practical hardware that actually works.
- Cross-Functional Learning: Act as a bridge between the physical and the digital. Work closely with the software and algorithm teams to understand how your hardware impacts their code.
- Collaborative Troubleshooting: Work alongside senior engineers to navigate the trade-offs between mechanical complexity, electronic constraints, and algorithmic workloads.
Requirements:
- Education: Degree (or soon to graduate) in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, a general STEM field, or equivalent practical mindset.
- Experience: No extensive industry experience required. We are looking for strong academic projects, participation in student engineering teams (e.g., formula student, robotics clubs), or personal hobbyist projects.
- Hardware Intuition: You have a natural intuition for real-world hardware and physical constraints. You like taking things apart to see how they work.
- Curiosity for Software: A basic understanding of (or a strong desire to learn about) algorithms, computer vision, or AI concepts so you can communicate effectively with the software side.
Essential attributes:
- Endlessly Curious: You ask "why" and "how" constantly, and you are always eager to learn a new skill or tool.
- Pragmatic Problem-Solver: You prefer building a quick prototype to test an idea over spending weeks theorizing about it.
- Dedicated & Driven: You might not know everything yet, but you have the grit and dedication to figure it out.
