Senior Embedded Firmware Developer – Industrial Automation (m/f/d)

We’re seeking a Senior Embedded FW Developer to join our team developing the next generation of the SIMATIC ET 200 family — our industry-leading decentralized I/O systems. As we expand the portfolio of our device family and implement advanced features and communication protocols, we’re delivering solutions that help define the future of industrial automation.

This role is a unique opportunity to take part in the development of automation products within the SIMATIC ET 200 family—Siemens’ flagship distributed I/O platform and one of the world’s most widely deployed decentralized I/O product lines.

Your task will be:

• Developing source code in C/C++ for embedded systems.
• Design software architecture and drive its implementation.
• Collaborate with international colleagues across hardware, testing, project management, and production.
• Lead or contribute to key firmware modules within larger product development projects.
• Design and maintain unit and functional tests; actively participate in code reviews.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.
• Actively contribute to the FW department strategy and its execution.
• Be a role model for ownership culture, compliance, and fair behavior.
• Embed AI into everyday engineering workflows (from requirements to release) to boost speed, quality, and collaboration.

What we will appreciate from you:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electronic engineering or sufficient work experience.
• Good knowledge of C or C++ programming.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• Knowledge of GIT versioning system.
• Experience with embedded systems and with real-time operating systems.
• Experience with the use of hardware debugging tools.
• Experience in R&D for embedded systems (firmware and/or industry/automation software).
• Experience with modern development practices (e.g., Agile/Lean, TDD, continuous integration).
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools to improve productivity across development, testing, and documentation workflows.
